Laser Hair Removal
As the laser is passed over the skin, light energy penetrates the skin targeting the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding tissue. The laser beam finds the melanin (dark color of the hair) at its root, and heats the surrounding follicle to disable it. The laser works on hair follicles that are in the anagen phase, or active growth phase. A series of treatments is required to achieve desired results since only a portion of the hair follicles are affected at any one time.
No hair removal procedure can claim 100% permanent hair removal. Our lasers have been approved by the FDA for permanent hair reduction. After undergoing a sufficient number of treatments, significant reduction in hair growth is achieved. Many clients see little or no hair growth following the laser hair removal process. Some new hair growth may be seen over time as you age and as your body reacts to hormones, medications, diet, and even stress. Studies show that most people achieve 80% to 85% reduction, although certain people experience better results.
Aside from the area close to the eye, almost any area of the body can be treated. The inside of the ears and nose must be avoided to prevent damage to sensitive tissues. The most commonly treated areas are the face, upper lip, chin, sideburns, neck, chest, back, underarms, abdomen, bikini area, legs and feet. However many people also experience hair growth in other areas that are unattractive or embarrassing, such as the perianal skin. For light to medium skin types, we use the Candela GentleLASE, and for medium to dark skin types we use the Candela GentleYAG.
